Penn State trumps Ohio State
Despite an early two-goal deficit, the Penn State women’s hockey team tallied three in the second period to rally past Ohio State on Sunday afternoon, 3-2.
Penn State defender Remi Martin notched the eventual game-winner 11 minutes, 20 seconds into the second period. She was assisted by Emily Laurenzi and Sarah Nielsen on the goal.
Laurenzi and Nielsen not only helped the Nittany Lions win it, but also sparked the comeback.
Penn State was down 2-0 after the first period after goals from the Buckeyes’ Dani Sadek and Melani Moylan.
The Nittany Lions responded, though, as Laurenzi scored her first goal of the game, assisted by Nielsen.
The game-tying goal was netted less than two minutes later, as junior Laura Bowman converted her eighth career power play goal. That’s tied for second in program history, one behind Shannon Yoxheimer’s nine.
A scoreless third period preserved Penn State’s win over the Buckeyes, evening up the weekend series. Ohio State toppled Penn State 2-1 on Saturday.
Penn State is now 5-13-4 on the season, with a 1-3-4 mark in conference play. The Nittany Lions return to the ice with a weekend series on the road at RIT on Jan. 15 and 16.
