State High alumna loses in ‘The Voice’ battle rounds. Here’s what she had to say afterward
Hillary Torchiana’s journey on “The Voice” came to an end on Monday’s episode.
The State High graduate was matched up against teammate Kevin Hawkins as they performed John Legend’s “Preach” in the battle rounds.
Legend, a coach on the show, gave the singers a standing ovation. He called Torchiana “a wonderful singer” but voiced his preference for Hawkins.
Coach Gwen Stefani praised Torchiana’s tone during the performance but said she would choose Hawkins as the winner.
Ultimately, the decision was up to both singers’ coach, Blake Shelton.
“These guys did an incredible job of sticking to the plan and representing the song,” Shelton said.
He complimented Torchiana’s performance, saying she gave her all against a tough competitor. He also praised Hawkins for giving 100%, but added that the singer still has untapped potential. Shelton declared Hawkins the winner of the battle.
Torchiana posted Monday night on Instagram that she missed the first day of her wedding to tape the battle rounds, but about 36 hours later, she “married the love of my life, surrounded by all of our family and friends. Talk about a wild ride!”
She expressed her gratitude to Shelton and the show for the opportunity, saying she will “cherish” the experience.
Torchiana also praised Hawkins, describing him as her battle partner. “We had so much fun together and I know we accomplished our goal of making this about the music and not about a battle,” she wrote.
Several “Voice” contestants from this season replied in the comments with compliments and heart emojis, including Hawkins.
“It was such an honor to sing with you!” he wrote, in part, calling her an “amazing woman.”
