Dermot Mulroney Just Dropped Major Details of ‘The Family Stone' Sequel, Including the Title

Dermot Mulroney is revealing some interesting details about the upcoming sequel to The Family Stone.

Mulroney, 62, whose diverse roles range from My Best Friend's Wedding to The Hunting Wives, played Everett Stone in the much-loved 2005 holiday film, in which his character brings his uptight girlfriend, Meredith, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, home to meet his family over the Christmas holiday. Naturally, chaos ensues when Meredith isn't exactly a hit with the rest of the family, including the matriarch, Sybil, played by the late Diane Keaton.

Flash forward to 2026, and Mulroney appeared on The Tangle With Kyle Ridley podcast and revealed the title of the upcoming sequel, as well as who has already signed on to reprise their role.

"I think it's going to be entitled The Families Stone," Mulroney shared of the sequel to the beloved holiday movie, written and directed by Thomas Bezucha. "Everyone's up for returning. I can be on record," Mulroney added, naming Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, and Craig T. Nelson. "They announced that Tom has the script. I've read it. I can't even process yet the depth of it, especially in light of losing Diane this year."

The Family Stone Sequel Will Honor Diane Keaton

Back in November, Bezucha told CNN that Keaton's death in October at the age of 79 was motivation to get the sequel written.

"I've been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already," he shared. "Mentally, I've been spending time in that house where I've been missing her for a while already."

However, he made it clear that he had no interest in making the film if the original stars weren't up for returning.

"I'm not interested in the Brady family reunion without the original Jan," he said.
