Helping Hands: Pregnancy Resource Center provides education and assistance

The Pregnancy Resource Clinic exists because we believe people matter.

Have you or someone you care about had a pregnancy scare or think you may have contracted an STD? Maybe you’re a mom struggling between your home and work life, wondering if you can parent and continue your education? Or, maybe you’re a dad wondering, “How can I provide for four children?” At PRC, our mission is to educate, encourage and empower men and women to make informed life choices. We provide community supported services to the greater Centre region related to pregnancy, parenting and STDs.

Did you know that the most recent data suggests in 2010, 53 percent of all pregnancies (115,000) in Pennsylvania were unintended? At PRC, we offer peace of mind by offering pregnancy tests and ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy. Our trained client advocates assist our clients as they navigate pregnancy options; parenting, adoption or abortion. If our clients choose to carry their pregnancy to term, we provide parenting support and materials assistance through our Pregnancy and Parenting Connections weekly support group. If our client is either a high school or Penn State student, we try our best to adequately prepare them for a successful pregnancy and transition through the early stages of parenthood. We also refer to many of the local medical professionals, supporting organizations, school counselors, and others in the community to fully resource our clients. However, we do not perform or refer abortion services. If a client or community member chooses to end their pregnancy by abortion, we invite them into our Abortion Recovery Help support group, which supports men and women who are seeking hope and encouragement after an abortion.

In addition, we have incorporated STD testing and treatment as one of our essential services to address the STD epidemic facing the current and upcoming generations. Estimates suggest that although young people aged 15–24 years represent only 25 percent of the sexually experienced population, they acquire nearly half of all new STDs. Also, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, untreated STDs are increasingly one of the leading causes of infertility in the United States. Through providing no-cost testing and treatment of STDs to the Centre Region, we are enabling our clients to live healthier lives and look forward to healthier futures.

Finally, we believe people matter because “God created man in His own image” (Genesis 1:27). Our desire is to share Christ’s love for you that you may have a fulfilled abundant life. John 10:10 reads, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I’ve come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
