Create your own Arts Fest banner at The Makery
The colorful, creative banners that line the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts route are as much a part of the annual event as Italian street painting or water buckets. This year, Arts Fest and The Makery are coming together to help people bring home their own banner creations.
The Create Your Own Arts Festival Banner workshop will be held from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday.
“A big part of Arts Fest is the banners, and this is an opportunity for children and their parents to create their own mini-versions of Arts Fest banners,” said Amy Frank, owner of The Makery.
Located on West Calder Way in the heart of the Arts Fest zone, The Makery has held workshops during the festival over the past two years, Frank said, sometimes drawing in more than 200 people for each event. She suspects that the studio’s air conditioning and restrooms have something to do with the draw, but said that Arts Fest weekend is the perfect opportunity to share The Makery’s mission as a creative collective with the community.
The Makery will provide the materials to create the garden flag-sized banner at the free workshop. People can use eclectic, whimsical and reclaimed materials from Arts Fests past, and no registration is required.
“The banners are something they can have at home as a memory of the weekend,” Frank said. “It’s family-friendly — this is something parents can do with their children.”
