5 Weekender questions with Phobos Anomaly

Local band Phobos Anomaly, which includes Damien Page (drums), Mark Holland (bass/vocals) and Jon Spearly (guitar/vocals), recently answered five Weekender questions.

Q: How long have you been playing?

A: Damien, Mark and Jon have been friends and musical collaborators since high school. The band Phobos Anomaly was started in December 2005 and has continued off and on since then.

Q: How do you describe your sound?

A: Phobos Anomaly’s sound is somewhat of an anomaly itself. Words like “prog,” “metal” and “indie” get used a lot — words we’re not terribly fond of. We consider it rock ’n’ roll music. Our friend, local radio host “Cosmic” Ray Cromey, described us as a “punk yes.” We’ve also just coined the term “semiprog.”

Q: Which musician — alive or dead — do you most wish you could share the stage with?

A: If we could line up a dream team of musicians to play with we would start a super group made up of Robert Fripp, Joshua Homme and Dean & Gene Ween.

Q: What’s your favorite song to play live?

A: Our favorite song to play live, hands down, would be our song “Skeleton.”

Q: Where can people hear your music?

A: Our music can be heard in person at the Brewery in downtown State College at 10 p.m. Sept. 21 with our friends OBA. We released our self-titled debut album late this summer, and it is available for purchase through CD Baby, Amazon and iTunes. We have three “singles” available for free download through our Bandcamp, phobosanomalypa.bandcamp.com, and our Soundcloud, soundcloud.com/phobos-anomaly-238350892.
