Centre County’s weekend best bets: Bellefonte Art Museum, benefit concert, fly-fishing classes
The holidays are behind us, but there’s still plenty to do in Centre County. This weekend, there are art and music options, among others.
Ritual Masks and Figures of Mexico from the Althouse Collection
Antique masks and figures used by Mexican indigenous people in religious dances and ceremonies are now on display at the Bellefonte Art Museum. The exhibit is part of the Althouse Collection, which was established by the late Thomas and Charlotte Althouse of Bucks County, according to a press release. The couple collected antique masks and carved figures during their travels and residence in Mexico during the 1950s and 1970s and passed the collection on to their son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jody Althouse of Centre County. Stephen and Jody Althouse have expanded the collection with antique Hispanic carved religious figures, additional ritual masks, artifacts and primitive jewelry through travels in Mexico, South America, Spain and North Africa.
The exhibit is on display through Feb. 23. For more information, visit https://www.bellefontemuseum.org/exhibits/196.
