5 Weekender questions with Radio Birds

Members of the hard-to-classify Radio Birds, which stem from Atlanta, will play at Rusty Rail Brewing in Mifflinburg on Friday. Before the show, they’ll stop at the State College 98.7 The Freq studios. First, the band answers five Weekender questions.

Q: How long have you been playing?

A: We’ve been a band since late 2013. We actually started as a different band but decided to write a different kind of record with a new sound so it prompted us to change our name and start fresh. Best decision we ever made.

Q: How do you describe your sound?

A: Creative Loafing in Tampa, Fla., recently wrote about us and it had the best description we’ve ever seen: “Fiery ’70s-channeling blues-driving rock ’n’ roll.” It’s pretty accurate.

Q: Which musician — alive or dead — do you most wish you could share the stage with?

A: There is this little known artist, Esbjorn Svensson, from Iceland — super eclectic musician who plays piano with a jazz trio. Kind of out there, but it’s always amazing to get on stage with musicians you really admire.

Q: What’s your favorite song to play live?

A: We’ve actually been playing a lot of new material and that is always the most exciting stuff to play. Trying out new stuff to see how a crowd reacts can be particularly thrilling.

Q: Where can people hear your music?

A: The easiest place to find us is on Spotify. Just give us a quick search. Of course you can buy the music on iTunes, Amazon, Google. Also feel free to find us on Facebook and reach out.
