Calling all knitters, or anyone who has ever wanted to learn about knitting or fiber arts.
Several organizations in the Centre Region devoted to knitting, spinning and weaving are coming together March 19 to share their love of fiber arts with the community.
The For the Love of Fiber festival will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 19 at the Match Factory in Bellefonte. The event is sponsored by the Centre Knitters Guild and will include participation from the State College Weaving Guild, Centre Spinners and the Nittany Valley Chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America.
For the Love of Fiber coordinator Lindsay Fürer said the event is open to those with all levels of experience in fiber arts, as well as those who are looking to get involved.
“We really want to get the public in and expose them to fiber crafts and we have demonstrations through the day for that reason,” Fürer said. “People who are unfamiliar with what weaving or spinning can see what those things look like throughout the day.”
In addition to demonstrations, the event will also include more in-depth classes, including “Crochet Hook Beading” with Loralee Swab and “Fisherman Knitting” with Diane Senn. About 20 merchants will be available, and food will be provided by Food for Thought and World’s Fare Catering.
Previous attendance has been around 250 people, but Fürer is hoping that some changes made this year will lead to a larger turnout. The event was moved from February to March to avoid winter weather, and moved from the Boal Barn to the Match Factory to provide more parking.
Outside of the For the Love of Fiber, Centre Knitters Guild meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Patton Township Building. For more information on the For the Love of Fiber and the Centre Knitters Guild, visit centreknittersguild.com.
