Suspected arson destroys 100-year-old barn

The following is a look back in the Centre Daily Times archives for the week of May 28-June 3.

50 years ago

In June 1967, the 115 graduating seniors at Penns Valley High School’s commencement ceremony were addressed by Daniel Hulitt, a pastor at First Methodist Church in Haddon Heights, N.J. Hulitt urged the graduates to stay fresh, vital and alive.

25 years ago

On May 28, 1992, the CDT reported on the suspected arson fire in Ferguson Township that destroyed a 100-year-old barn off Farmstead Lane. The loss was a blow to the State College Friends School, which had plans to convert the barn into a Quaker Meeting Hall with classroom space.

10 years ago

On June 2, 2007, the movie “Gracie” opened in theaters, featuring 24 seconds of music from the State College Area High School marching band. Set in 1978, the film starred Carly Schroeder and Dermot Mulroney in a story about a 15-year-old girl who fought for the opportunity to play competitive soccer.
