This week in history: Hundreds gather to honor Virginia Tech shooting victim

50 years ago

In May 1967, the Bellefonte borough was negotiating with the West Penn Power Company to purchase the company’s building on West Lamb Street. The borough was considering using the property for municipal offices, a garage and a fire house for the Logan Fire Company.

25 years ago

In May 1992, Pebble Creek Miniature Golf opened on South Atherton Street. John Heim, of State College, designed the course as part of an independent study he undertook while a student at Susquehanna University.

10 years ago

Less than a month after 27-year-old Jeremy Herbstritt, of Bellefonte, was killed in the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech, hundreds gathered for the first memorial 5K run/walk held in his honor. Proceeds were donated to the United Way and Herbstritt’s family also expressed a desire to one day build a track at Bellefonte Area High School.
