This week in history: Former Philipsburg mayor remembered

50 years ago
On July 21, 1967, the former Schlow Memorial Library prepared to open its new location at the corner of South Allen Street and East Beaver Avenue. A total of eight truckloads and 26,000 volumes were transferred from West College Avenue, the library’s home of 10 years.
25 years ago
In July of 1992, visiting artists from around the country were still hard at work developing the eye candy at the burgeoning Rhoneymeade Arboretum and Sculpture Garden in Potter Township. Owner Richard Morgan anticipated that the showcase would be ready by mid-August.

On July 16, 2007, the CDT ran a story about the death of former Philipsburg mayor Sandra Martin, who at the age 74 succumbed to a battle with lung cancer. Martin was active on several committees and boards throughout the community, including Heritage Days.
