Quilt guild offers social, creative, service benefits
Members of Centre Pieces Quilt Guild gathered at St. John’s Church in Boalsburg on a gray Wednesday morning to add a little color to the lives of others by making birthday placemats for Meals on Wheels.
It’s just one of the ways the group gives back to the community — members also donate quilts to Toys for Tots, make stockings for troops stationed throughout the world and give quilts and blankets to local hospitals and shelters.
But the benefits of quilting also extend to the quilters themselves.
Quilting is social, and it’s a great way to meet people, said Barbara Zeger, liaison between the day and night programs.
“You don’t quilt alone,” she said. “You quilt with your friends.”
Zeger said it’s also a way to express creativity.
Any level of quilter — from beginner to expert — is welcome.
“We love new members,” Zeger said. “We will embrace new members. ... We will take them under our wing.”
Evening meetings are typically held 7-9 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the Mount Nittany Middle School cafeteria, 656 Brandywine Drive, State College. Day meetings are usually held 12:30-3 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at the Transfer Station Interpretive Center, 253 Transfer Road, Bellefonte.
