This week in history: Former Schlow Library site demolished

The following is a look back in the Centre Daily Times archives for the week of Oct. 8- 14.

50 years ago

In October 1967, a power shovel demolished the former home of Schlow Library on West College Avenue to make way for a parking lot. Schlow relocated to the former State College Post Office before eventually moving into its current location on South Allen Street.

25 years ago

In October1992, street prices for tickets to the impending Penn State-Miami football game had reached anywhere between $70 and $300 a seat. Hotel rooms in Altoona, Lock Haven, Renovo, Clearfield and Lewistown were all sold out.

10 years ago

In October 2007, the Centre County Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Institute to take a system that lets crime victims know the status of inmates state wide. The system, which allowed crime victims to check the status of an inmate or receive notification of an inmate’s release, was first launched in Centre County.
