This week in history: Alumni Blue Band celebrated 30th anniversary

50 years ago
In October 1967, Pennsylvania Gov. Raymond Shafer signed a cigarette tax bill that raised the state tax on a pack of cigarettes from 8 to 13 cents. The increase was expected to yield an estimated $55 million over the rest of the fiscal year.
25 years ago
On Oct. 19, 1992, the Penn State Alumni Blue Band celebrated its 30th anniversary with the return of 400 former band members. The group took the field during halftime at the Penn State-Boston College homecoming game.
10 years ago
In October 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — which included Penn State faculty members Michael Mann, Richard Alley, Bill Easterling, Klaus Keller and Anne Thompson — was recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize.
