The Strange and Usual to reopen at new location

After closing its doors in Kingston earlier this year, popular specialty gift shop The Strange and Unusual announced late Sunday evening that the business has found a new home.

Owners Josh Balz and Eryn Kearney wrote on Facebook that after closing the shop, the amount of love they received from the community was "overwhelming."

"All of the messages and stories that were shared about how much our space meant to you all showed us that we needed to find a way to keep Strange in our lives," the post said.

While the duo did share a concept drawing of the oddities parlor's new home, a specific location and opening date have not been released yet.

While the online shop has remained open, The Strange and Unusual's in-person parlor, previously located at 467 Wyoming Ave., closed the first week of January.

Balz told the Times Leader in December 2025 that he made the decision because he felt like he needed a bit of a break.

At the time, he said relocation of the shop was "up in the air."

Balz, a former member of Motionless in White, is the owner of Noir Dark Spirits, co-owner of Parlor Beverages root beer, and owner of The Ritz Theater in Scranton, which he put up for sale in December 2025.

The Strange and Unusual first opened its doors in 2015. The Strange Brew, a Harry Potter-themed coffee shop, opened inside the parlor in 2019.
