Everything You Need to Know About the 'Elden Ring' Movie
As 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' officially becomes the highest-grossing movie of 2026 thus far, another major video game adaptation comes together.
A24 announced that its adaptation of 'Elden Ring' has officially begun production. With a budget reported to be over $100 million, the fantasy epic will be the indie studio's most expensive film ever.
The film will be written and directed by Alex Garland, the filmmaker behind 'Civil War' (2024) and 'Ex Machina' (2014).
With the movie slated to premiere on March 3, 2028, fans of the video game will have to wait a little while before the big screen adaptation graces their local cinemas.
The theatrical experience promises to be exciting, as the film is being shot on IMAX.
'Heartstopper' star Kit Connor, who has been confirmed as the movie's lead, is reuniting with Garland after 2025's 'Warfare.'
The rest of the packed cast includes Ben Wishaw ('Black Doves'), Cailee Spaney ('Alien: Romulus'), Havana Rose Liu ('Bottoms'), Sonoya Mizuno ('Ex Machina'), and Jonathan Pryce ('Game of Thrones'). Nick Offerman, who is no stranger to video game adaptations after winning an Emmy for his guest-starring role on 'The Last of Us,' rounds out the cast.
Released in 2022, the Elden Ring video game is one of the most critically acclaimed of all time, winning more than 400 Game of the Year awards. 'A Game of Thrones' author, George R.R. Martin, who wrote the game, also serves as a producer on the movie.
Having sold over 30 million copies globally, Elden Ring is also one of the best-selling games ever.
The game takes place in the Lands Between, a mythical world plunged into war when the Elden Ring-a powerful object-is shattered. One warrior is tasked with retrieving the pieces of the ring and restoring them to become the Elden Lord.
