Man Picks Up Corgi From Day Care-Not Ready for What He Sees Through Window
When a pet parent arrived to pick up his corgi from day care, he expected the usual end-of-day routine-collar on, a bit of excited chaos and a sleepy ride home-but what he saw through the window into the play area left TikTok users in stitches.
Inside the glass-walled room, owner Tony Nichols’ corgi, Chip, was completely stretched out on his back in the middle of the floor, paws loose in the air and body fully surrendered to comfort. For a moment, it looked like he had decided that day care was simply a place for maximum relaxation and zero obligations. Chip did not budge as another dog circled him.
The man laughed as he filmed the scene to send to his wife, Laarni, who is known on TikTok as @misskira2525. Still watching Chip’s unusually committed belly-up position, the owner could barely process what he was seeing and asked, “What the heck is this?”
“We’ve only seen Chip in that position at home, especially when he is asleep and relaxed, but never in public; that’s why when Tony picked him up, he was surprised!” Laarni told Newsweek via TikTok. “And that’s the first time Chip did that, too, at the Day Care.”
Tony’s timing in picking up Chip turned out to be perfect, capturing the unexpected moment on camera just before everything changed in an instant.
In a split second, Chip flipped the switch. He rolled over, popped to his feet and immediately launched into play mode, with the dog circling and barking at him. That dog, the couple later learned, is Lily-known affectionately at day care as "Lily the Barker."
Fortunately, the staff told Chip’s owners that the two are inseparable best friends who match each other’s energy, chasing and playing throughout the day, Laarni said.
As soon as Chip spotted his dad through the glass, the mood shifted again. The dog smiled as he locked onto his human, and playtime suddenly took on a new urgency-he was ready to go home.
The clip has since racked up more than 636,300 views and 114,000, with TikTok viewers fixating on Chip’s dramatic belly-up lounge and instant transformation when he saw Tony.
“Are you kidding me with the literal smile that appears when he notices you!?” asked one user.
Another said: “That’s corgi core. Mine spends more time sunny side up than he does on his stumpers.”
Some worried the dog’s playing appeared to be bullying, but many were quick to rebuff: “That dog is not being bullied. Our corgi lies on her back like that all the time, playing with our other dog. They play exactly like this.”
A fourth added: “Idk seems like they are playing and being silly together to me! So cute.”
Laarni echoed that sentiment: “Chip was just being silly, and he was happy.”
