Bernese Mountain Dog Gets New Puppy Sibling and Looks Completely Betrayed
There are certain moments in life that hit different when you actually understand the full story behind them. This is one of those moments.
A TikTok from @waltandgusthebernese shows Gus, a Bernese Mountain Dog, watching as his family bring home a new puppy named Hank. The look on Gus's face says everything we need to know? Pure betrayal. He's sitting in a very specific spot-staring, judging, and radiating "are you serious right now" energy.
Here's what makes this hit so much harder: that's the exact same spot where Walty, the family's previous Bernese, sat and silently judged Gus when Gus first arrived at their home as a puppy. Walty has since passed away, and now Gus has come full circle. He's now become the big brother Bernese doing all the judging.

The caption says it all: "Many, many emotions came with getting Hank. He is now ready to take on the role of annoying little brother to Gus "
The text overlay perfectly explains the universal feeling we all know too well: "An unexpected, bittersweet moment getting a new dog."
The fans in the comments section understood the assignment immediately.

"My heart can't handle it. Gus has come full circle, judging Hank from the same spot Walty judged him from. "
"Bittersweet, indeed. I like to think that Walty is up there cracking up that Gus is about to get his payback and watching over your family with love."
"Gus learned from the best big brother ever, Walty!"
Bernese Mountain Dogs Are Gentle Giants That Generally Accept New Family Members Well
Here's what's actually happening beyond Gus's Oscar-worthy stink eye: Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for being easygoing and good with other pets. They actually tend to be pretty friendly toward other dogs, which means Gus's ‘betrayed' look is probably more about adjustment and less actual rejection toward Hank.
Bringing a new puppy into a home with an established dog requires a lot of patience. The older dog has to try to figure out this tiny agent of chaos who doesn't understand boundaries yet. Meanwhile, the puppy has the misfortune to learn the house rules from someone who's suddenly and absolutely way less excited about sharing toys, attention, and couch space.

But Bernese Mountain Dogs typically handle this transition well. They're gentle, devoted companions who form strong, lasting bonds with their families-and that includes furry family members too.
Gus might look betrayed now, but give it a few weeks. Hank will probably be curled up next to him, and Gus will be the protective big brother Walty once was to him.
Welcome home, Hank.
