Dad Puts Toddler to Bed, Shock Over What Mom Sees Him Doing on Baby Cam

A mom was left shocked after checking the baby cam and realizing bedtime hadn't gone quite as planned.

Celeste Shippy (@celeste.shippy) shared footage from her Nanit baby monitor on Instagram, which showed her husband Drew in bed with their 2-year-old son Baker. The moment came during the family's nightly bedtime routine, which looks a little different these days.

The couple recently welcomed a newborn, Callen, now 9 weeks old. Celeste typically puts the baby to sleep while Drew handles bedtime for Baker. “He is at such a fun age where he does funny things often, so I find myself pulling up the camera to see what he's doing,” Celeste told Newsweek.

She also checks the monitor to get a sense of when Drew might come back to their room, which helps her decide whether it's isafe to steal a few uninterrupted minutes for herself, for taking a shower, and so on.

That night, though, the camera revealed a familiar scene for the couple. Drew, who wakes up at 4:30 a.m. for work, had once again nodded off mid-bedtime. Celeste said that, when she sees him asleep in Baker's room, she knows he is staying put-and she lets him rest.

The real surprise, however, was Baker. In the footage, he taps and scrolls on Drew's smartwatch. Since Baker doesn't use tablets or play on phones, it was his first encounter with a screen of any kind.

“We still aren't sure what exactly on the watch he was doing,” Celeste said. “Even just scrolling around was probably a great time for him.”

The footage is going viral on Instagram with over 3.9 million views. Users had plenty of theories as to what Baker was doing on his dad's smartwatch.

“Is he arranging his appointments for tomorrow?” one user posted.

“Replying to all his texts and emails,” said another.

“And that's why I cannot sleep with my Garmin,” a third wrote.

“Gotta do swim mode around the kids to keep them from playing with it,” a fourth added.

Overall, users found the nighttime scroll hilarious.

Celeste's reaction was immediate. “I started laughing so hard, I woke up my baby,” she said. “I just spent 30 minutes putting to sleep and immediately started screen recording so I could show my husband when he woke up.”

In the end, there was no parental intervention required. Celeste kept an eye on the monitor to make sure Baker stayed in bed, and, within about 10 minutes, he drifted off to sleep next to his dad.
