Conemaugh report touts hospital's $300M+ economic impact on community

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown's largest employer, made a community-wide economic impact of more than $300 million in 2025.

CMMC distributed just over $238 million in payroll to 2,320 employees, according to a report recently issued by Conemaugh Health System, a member of Duke LifePoint Healthcare.

The hospital also paid nearly $35 million in local and state taxes, donated $34.3 million in services to those in need and invested more than $18 million in capital improvements.

Rodney Reider, the medical center's CEO, put those economic numbers into the context of patient care.

"You can talk about taxes and all that kind of stuff, but the key is the number of people seen and the key is the number of people you bring in to see them, so you have that access," Reider said during a video interview. "As a community asset, our job is to provide that access."

Reider added: "We're going to continue to make a difference in people's lives and, at the same time, make sure that we're building a culture where people want to be. The numbers are an outside view of what the success should look like."

Cambria Regional Chamber President and CEO Amy Bradley said "the numbers are impressive."

"I think the average person may not realize just what the economic impact is," Bradley said.

Bradley pointed out other contributions made by Conemaugh, including providing access to a Level 1 Trauma Center and offering educational opportunities at the Conemaugh School of Nursing and Allied Health Programs.

"There is a lot of opportunity for people in our region due to the health system," Bradley said.

Last year, CMMC added a new medical oncology center, modernized with a Aquablation robotic system and Tablo in-house hemodialysis solution, and renovated the emergency department. New providers were brought into more than a dozen departments.

Reider said those steps were part of the hospital's "insatiable desire" to upgrade and recruit.

CMMC also provided sponsorships and donations to at least 20 organizations, including Cambria Alliance EMS, YWCA of Greater Johnstown, the Johnstown Mill Rats, the Taunia Oechslin Girls Night Out Foundation and Highlands Health.
