Best-Selling Fantasy Saga Produced by Michael B. Jordan Officially Heading to Amazon

Fourth Wing is flying to Amazon Prime with Michael B. Jordan as executive producer.

At Amazon's upfront presentation, Michael B. Jordan made a surprise appearance as the final presenter, promoting his production company Outlier Society and teasing the adaptation for Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing. The show has been in development for over two years; Jordan secured the rights before Yarros published the book, according to Variety. While he did not specify a premiere date, Jordan confirmed that Amazon Prime has ordered the series.

The Empyrean Series, starting with Fourth Wing, is one of several recent fantasy hits that cemented Yarros as a best-selling author. It follows a young girl training as a dragon rider amidst a war. The story blends action, romance, conspiracy, and, of course, dragons. Three of Yarros' planned five books are published; the fourth is scheduled for release in September.

Jordan enlisted two big names to help produce Fourth Wing, both of whom joined him and Yarros on stage at the presentation. Lisa Joy, best known as the co-creator of Westworld, will serve as an executive producer and direct the first episode. Meredith Averill, a co-creator of Locke & Key on Netflix, another popular book adaptation, has been brought on as showrunner, replacing Moira Walley-Beckett, who left the project last year. Casting is yet to be announced.

Jordan also teased two more projects during Amazon's upfront, both with existing audiences, just like Fourth Wing. He announced The Greatest about Muhammad Ali, approved by the Ali estate, with Ali's widow, Lonnie Ali, consulting. In collaboration with Ryan Coogler, Jordan is also developing a new Creed spinoff, Delphi, about young boxers at the gym where Adonis (Jordan) and Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) trained.

Jordan was the closing presentation, but he was only one of many stars at Amazon's upfront presentation. Diplo and Kacey Musgraves opened the program, Oprah announced a podcast deal, and then Ice Spice, Shaboozey, and Paige DeSorbo all made appearances to promote different Amazon products and media. Jordan's fellow Marvel actor Chris Pratt announced that The Terminal List would be returning for a second season.
