Age has its privileges in Centre County. People who are 60 or older qualify for a variety of programs offered through the Centre County Office of Aging and its six senior centers.
The local centers offer everything from line dancing and billiards to more traditional fare such as cards and crafts.
The county also offers a Telephone Touch Reassurance Program, a daily safety check in which emergency procedures go into effect if a person does not answer a call.
LEGAL SERVICES
These services help to obtain legal advice on the client’s affairs for managing long-term care. Issues could include representative payee, power of attorney, trusts, life estate, guardianship and wills. Local services include the Centre County Office of Aging, 355-6716; Mid Penn Legal Services, 238-4958; and Pennsylvania Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service, 800-692-7375.
MEDICATION INFORMATION
For information about possible side effects, recommended dosages, potential interactions and over-the-counter medications, contact Community Help Centre at 237-5855 or a pharmacist.
RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
RSVP of Centre County helps individuals age 55 and older put their skills and life experiences to use through volunteering in the community.
The staff assists each person in choosing the right opportunity based on the volunteer’s interests, abilities and schedule. RSVP receives requests for volunteer help from more than 100 community agencies and organizations.
The RSVP office, 339 Willowbank Building, 420 Holmes St., Bellefonte, is open from Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 355-6816 for information.
SENIOR CENTER AND HEALTH INFORMATION
Services for those age 60 and older include group meals, socialization, recreation and education programs tailored to the participants’ interests.

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
For information about essential transportation services to and from medical appointments, shopping, human service agencies or senior centers, contact one of the following: Centre Area Transportation Authority at 238-2282; Centre County Office of Aging at 355-6716; Centre County Office of Transportation at 355-6807; RSVP office at 355-6816; or Community Help Centre at 237-5855.
Van service to all six senior centers is free by calling 355-6807 at least 24 hours in advance when planning to ride in a van or to eat a meal at a center.
