Charter and private schools


State College Area School District has four charter schools, which are public schools with specially defined educational missions:

•  Centre Learning Community Charter School, 2643 W. College Ave., State College. 861-7980.

. Serves grades five to eight with an emphasis on technology and project-based learning. (School Performance Profile score: 87.3)

•  Nittany Valley Charter School, 1612 Norma St., State College. 867-3842.

. Serving grades K-8, the school aims to provide a flexible learning environment with small classes and individualized instruction programs. (School Performance Profile score: 55.5)

•  Wonderland Charter School, 2112 Sandy Drive, State College. 234-5886.

. Providing full-day kindergarten through fifth grade, the school’s goal is to meet each child’s individual educational, emotional and social needs. (School Performance Profile score: none given)

•  Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania Charter School, 1530 Westerly Parkway, State College. 237-9727.

. Serving grades K-8, the school focuses on teaching students to be lifelong learners and prepares them for a global economy. (School Performance Profile score: 82.6)


•  State College Area School District Virtual Academy serves students in grades nine-12. Students enrolled in the academy do not take classes at State High but are eligible for extracurricular activities at State High. There is no cost for students enrolled in the Virtual Academy. or 231-1002.

•  Bellefonte Area School District eLearning Academy serves grades five-12. Students attend from home or another location outside a traditional classroom and are permitted to participate in extracurricular activities. The program is free.

•  Bald Eagle Area School District Cyber Academy serves grades K-12. Each student follows a customized program and receives a computer, printer, headphones and a connectivity stipend. Courses can be accessed anywhere with Internet capability. Students are permitted to participate in extracurricular activities. There is no tuition. 380-1393 or 353-1413. (click on “Schools” tab)

•  Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District eMountie Academy serves grades K-12. The program offers distance learning that includes interactions with professional educators and peers. 342-1521.
