Dog Licenses

State law requires that all dogs 3 months or older must be licensed in the county where they are kept.

•  New tags should be displayed beginning Jan. 1 of each year.

Licenses serve as a tool for returning lost dogs to their owners. People who do not buy a license for their dog may be fined $300 plus court costs.

•  Licenses for males or females that have not been spayed or neutered cost $8.50, or $6.50 for owners who are senior citizens.

•  Licenses for spayed or neutered dogs cost $6.50, or $4.50 if the owner is a senior citizen.

•  Lifetime licenses are also available but must be arranged for at the Centre County Treasurer’s Office (355-6810). Owners must be prepared to go to a veterinarian to have the dog tattooed or microchipped.

Licenses can be purchased at the Centre County Treasurer’s Office, 420 Holmes St., No. 105, Bellefonte, 355-6810. For a list of other locations, go to:
