The Centre County Youth Service Bureau is home to the following programs that can be accessed directly:
A 4-bed residential shelter for homeless, runaway or at-risk youth ages 12-18 who can stay up to 21 days. Hotline: 234-2100
Transitional Living — Stepping StoneAn 8-bed program designed to aid youth ages 16 to 20 with no safe place to live, designed to help them become independent.
Big Brothers Big SistersProvides long-term, one-to-one relationships between trained volunteers and at-risk youth ages 5-17.
OutreachProvides drop-in centers in Bellefonte and Snow Shoe, along with prevention and education activities for youth in their own neighborhoods.
Family Group Decision MakingProvides planning and facilitation to assist families in tackling a problem or making a tough decision.
Parenting EducationOffers in-home education to parents struggling with parenting children under age 10.
In addition, YSB offers the following services accessible through county agencies:
Girls Group Home — StormbreakA nine-bed home for girls ages 12-19 who have no other safe place to live.
Boys Group Home — Zerby GapA 12-bed home for boys ages 12-19 who have no other safe place to live.
ReunificationAssists in the safe return of children who have been removed from their own homes.
DeclutterAddresses home conditions that may lead to removal of children and/or homelessness.
In addition to professional staff and volunteers, all YSB programs are assisted by:
AmeriCorpsAmeriCorps workers provide support to youth involved in programming through mentoring, tutoring and teaching life skills.
