Mad Mex happy hour hits the spot

Editor’s note: This story is part of the Eat, Play, Live special section.

Whether it’s been a long day at the office or you’re looking to celebrate with friends, Mad Mex’s happy hour is the place to go.

From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, enjoy discounted margaritas, drafts and wings — boneless excluded.

A lot of regulars head to the 240 S. Pugh St., State College, location for something tasty to eat or drink.

Now that most students have gone home for the summer, things are a little quieter on Mondays, manager Molly Wisniewski said.

Fridays are typically the busiest day of the week for happy hour, she added. So plan accordingly if you’re looking for a quieter atmosphere.

Mad Mex margaritas are legendary, and with a name like Big Azz that’s not surprising. If 22 ounces of fruity goodness is too much (and let’s be honest, it’s a lot), they also have more modest 12- and 16-ounce margaritas.

Pair a chilly margarita with some finger-licking-good wings and the workday will fade from memory.

You can get those wings mild, wild or — if you’re feeling brave — insane.

And while you’re there, you might as well enjoy some dinner: Burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, tacos and more are all on the menu. It’s not discounted, but the smell alone is enough to make it worth it. Chips and salsa are a must.

But hey, if all you need is a draft, they’ve got you covered with more than 20 varieties of beer.

So what are you waiting for? Kick back and enjoy the summer sunshine on the patio (but enjoy it responsibly).
