Recycling: Do you have a perfect recycling bin? The CCRRA might give you $50

The Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority (CCRRA) is celebrating our 50th anniversary this month. To commemorate this milestone, we are randomly giving away $50 gift cards to 50 residents who put out perfect curbside recycling bins on their recycling day this month.

How it works

Throughout the month of May, the CCRRA curbside recycling crew will collect addresses of residents who put out perfect curbside recycling bins. A perfect bin is one where all items are prepared correctly as found in our Guide to Curbside Recycling: www.centrecountyrecycles.org/curbsiderecycling.

Once all addresses have been collected, staff will randomly pick 50 addresses from the “May Perfect Bin List.” Each winner will then receive a post card in the mail detailing how they can claim their $50 gift card. Yes, we are giving away $50 just for recycling right!

How to Prepare the Perfect Curbside Recycling Bin

It’s easy! Bag or bundle mixed paper, paperboard, newspaper and magazines. Flatten all corrugated cardboard and place in, next to, or under your bin. Place only plastic bottles, jugs or jars in the bin. Include only clear, green, blue and brown glass bottles, jugs and jars in the bin. Recycle steel and metal cans as well, and rinse all plastic, glass and metal before placing in your bin.

Huge Sponsor Thank You

This contest could not happen without the generous support of our sponsors. Gift cards for this contest have been donated by the Centre Region Council of Governments’ Refuse and Recycling Program, Fred Carson Disposal Service, Inc., WM, Clean Energy and the CCRRA.

A Little Bit About CCRRA

I wanted to end this column with a personal note. I have been at the Authority for over 15 years. I work with the most amazing staff lead by a very wise, competent and caring board of directors. CCRRA has accomplished so much over the past 50 years and I am proud to be a small part of it.

We currently process about 100,000 tons of trash and 14,000 tons of recycling per year. We hold an annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, administer a Green Business Partnership Program, clean up illegal dump sites, answer thousands of calls from residents each year, collect electronics, scrap metal, tires, wood waste (and more) for recycling, house a CNG Fueling Station and an Electric Vehicle Charging Station, offer training for our staff, give tours to our students and community, keep our vehicles and heavy equipment in tip top shape, and much, much more. We have employees who have been with us for over 30 years so we must be doing something right.

Happy 50th anniversary to you, CCRRA! I can’t wait to see what the next 50 years has in store.

As always, thank you for reading, and thank you for recycling!
