Recycling: Bulk waste collection, cleanest tailgate contest and more fall reminders
Fall is a busy time in Happy Valley with school activities, football games and a few holidays to boot. It can be hard to keep everything organized so I have compiled some refuse and recycling reminders for the fall season.
COG’s Fall Bulk Waste Collection Week is Oct. 17-21
Centre Region Council of Governments’ Fall Bulk Waste Collection will take place Oct. 17-21 for WM residential customers in Benner, College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton townships. Visit www.crcog.net for the new guidelines to ensure that your items are collected.
Fall Tours of the Recycling Center are Back
Would you like to take a tour of the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority? We offer free tours of our facility to schools, groups, organizations and more. Join us as we walk our facility grounds to discover where your trash and recycling go once leaving your home. Can’t make it out to our facility in person? We also have a virtual tour available. To schedule an in-person or virtual tour of the CCRRA, send an email to aschirf@centrecountyrecycles.org or call 814-238-7005 and we will get it on the books.
Holiday Collection Schedule
The holidays can sometimes delay or change the normal recycling and refuse collection day. We publish a quarterly newsletter and page 3 always lists any recycling and refuse collection changes. It was only after 40,000 copies of the fall newsletter were printed and mailed that we realized the holiday collection schedule for the COG was incorrect. This Christmas and New Year, there will be no change in the collection day for COG residents as our collections staff will work their normal schedule. This has been corrected for the winter newsletter that will be distributed later this year.
Win a $50 Weis Markets Gift Card
This fall, the CCRRA and Weis Markets are holding a “Cleanest Tailgate Contest” at each home Penn State football game! For your chance to win, just snap a picture of your clean tailgate area following each Penn State home game and tag the CCRRA on any of our social pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). We will pick one $50 Weis Market Gift Card winner after each home game. Your next chance to win is Oct. 22!
Recycle Inside and Outside of Beaver Stadium
We are working with Penn State to recycle as many items as we can from the home football games, both inside and outside of the stadium. Inside the stadium there are recycling bins for empty bottles and cans. Outside of the stadium there are free blue bags available for empty bottles and cans. The more bottles and cans we can save from heading to the landfill, the better. You can help by placing your recyclable items in the correct bins/bag.
Wishing you all a wonderful fall! As always, thank you for recycling.
