CentreMoves offers opportunities for families to keep moving

Editor’s note: CentreMoves has taken over the People Centre’d On Diabetes column that normally occupies this space on the third Monday of the month.

CentreMoves proudly hosted the Fit Families Challenge from April 1-30. This challenge encouraged families to be active and commit to doing at least 15 workouts during the month and helped to expose everyone to the great resources in Centre County.

In this inaugural year, a total of 220 families participated.

Throughout the month, workouts were tracked using the MapMyFiteness app, FitBit or on paper. The 27 challenge members who used FitBit logged more than 8.1 million steps, which is roughly equivalent to 4,050 miles or walking from State College to Stockholm, Sweden. Another 105 participants joined the MapMyFitness group and together logged more than 650 workouts and an additional 1,000 miles. Participants accumulated a total of 3,287,694 steps, walked 1,414.85 miles and had 15,633 active minutes.

Any family who logged 15 or more workouts was entered into drawings for great prizes from several local sponsors including the YMCA, Fit for Play Physical Therapy, One on One Fitness Consultants and more. Winners were announced at the end of the challenge. Sarah Mathews, one of the grand prize winners, stated: “My husband and I really enjoyed the challenge, and it helped to get us moving again after a long winter.”

We are pleased to announce the randomly selected grand prize winners, who completed and recorded at least 15 workouts:

▪ Jodi Ehrensberger Family — Spikes Four Diamond Club Tickets

▪ Kelly Fry Family — YMCA membership

▪ Sarah Mathews Family — Fit for Play package
