Four St. Luke's hospitals named among top 100 on national list
Several St. Luke's University Health Network hospitals have once again been named to Premier Inc.'s 100 Top Hospitals.
This is the 12th time in a row and the 14th time overall that St. Luke's hospitals have been recognized by the list published in Modern Healthcare magazine.
Premier's Top 100 Hospitals list, published since 1993, uses publicly available data from the federal government and various industry associations to evaluate nearly 2,600 acute care, nonfederal hospitals in the U.S. Hospitals that make the list are recognized for excellence in patient care quality, operational efficiency, financial health, community impact and customer experience.
According to Premier, the list identifies top performers and reports findings to help health care organizations achieve consistent, balanced and sustainable high performance. Premier doesn't ask for hospitals to participate in the study and hospitals that make the list are not charged to promote themselves for making it on the list.
The list is not purely numerical either; instead, top-ranking hospitals are grouped into five categories: major teaching hospitals, teaching hospitals, and small, medium or large community hospitals.
Five Pennsylvania hospitals earned a place on the top 100 list. Four of the five are St. Luke's campuses.
St. Luke's Anderson Campus was named the No. 2 teaching hospital in the country; it’s the eighth time in a row that it has been recognized as a top teaching hospital. St. Luke's University Hospital–Bethlehem, which includes the Fountain Hill, Allentown and Sacred Heart campuses, was recognized for the 13th time as a top teaching hospital.
Among top medium-sized hospitals, St. Luke's-Upper Bucks was named for the second year in a row and St. Luke's Monroe Campus was ranked for the first time.
"Such consistently outstanding results are a credit to our physicians, nurses and our entire St. Luke's team and their unwavering focus on quality at every level of our organization," said St. Luke's chief quality officer Donna Sabol, in a statement.
The other ranked Pennsylvania hospital was Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital, West Chester, which was named one of the top large community hospitals.
