Rusty Rail to host sixth annual Slamfest
MIFFLINBURG - What began as a local wrestling showcase has become an annual tradition at Rusty Rail Brewing Company in Mifflinburg.
The sixth annual Slamfest returns at 2 p.m. June 28 at the brewery, 5 N. Eighth St. For the second year in a row, fans are encouraged to bring canned or nonperishable food items to benefit veterans and their families.
"I love introducing pro-wrestling to new audiences and sharing the live action drama," organizer Vince Evans, who wrestles as Vinny Lee Glamrock, said. "It's very interactive with the crowds, and it draws people in with the energy and excitement."
Evans said the "unique form of live entertainment" creates unforgettable moments for people of all ages and a way for the community to connect.
The show will feature returning wrestlers like Devontes, South Philly's Finest, Vinny Lee Glamrock, Surge, D Savage, Joey "The Closer" Martinez, the Delinquents, Manical Glee, R.D. Mosh of the Sons of Mifflin County with Pit Chick and President of Wrestling Phil Stamper.
New this year are Matt Silks of the Sons of Mifflin County, Rembrandt, Dio Bando, Jem, Degeneration-Mex, Montilla da Killa, Michael Fain, Salvador, Valintina "Latina Heat" Vasquez, Manimal and Oxx Adams.
Featured matches include a Lucha Libre Trios Match between Degeneration-Mex and Montilla da Killa, Michael Fain and Salvador; Jem versus Valintina "Latina Heat" Vasquez; and a grudge match between Devontes and D Savage. The annual Central PA Championship trophy will also be up for grabs. Chad Evans will be the special guest host.
The event will also feature a sign-making table and raffles with prizes donated by local organizations, according to Slamfest Outreach Coordinator Lindsay Tull.
Anyone who brings canned goods or nonperishable items will be entered into a special raffle. The prize is a gift card bouquet worth more than $250, featuring gift cards and coupons for Jersey Mike's Subs, Bison Beverage, El Torito, Sunset Skating Rink, Strike Zone, Hoopla's Xtreme Family Fun, Applebee's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Texas Roadhouse, Kleen Mist and Perkins.
"It's local entertainment with community involvement," Tull said. "It brings a hometown vibe. You're close to the action, and there's high energy and crowd participation."
The food drive benefits Military Share, which provides food to veterans and their families. Food is distributed at Winfield Baptist Church, Tull said.
Pia Reese, the business development director of events for Rusty Rail, said she is looking forward to welcoming Slamfest to the brewery again.
"It's an amazing local draw," Reese said. "We love bringing Slamfest to the community every single year. We have our brand new rail yard, so it will be great to see everyone come together here for another great year."
Tickets are $15 for general admission online and $20 at the door. Children 10 and under are free with a general admission ticket. Tickets and upgraded packages with special offers and VIP access are available at www.slamtix.com.
