Cyclist dies from injuries in crash with van

A man was pronounced dead Wednesday at the scene of a bicycle and van crash, according to state police at Hollidaysburg.

Kenneth F. Franks, 61, of Altoona, was traveling north on U.S. Route 220 when his bike crashed with a van that was traveling in the same direction, police said. The van, a Ford Transit 250, was driven by Kenneth T. Esworthy, 52, of Altoona.

The crash occurred at 10:50 a.m. in Antis Township on East Pleasant Valley Boulevard.

Police said an investigation is ongoing and advised drivers that “they are required by law to yield 4 feet of space when passing a cyclist.”
