DelGrosso’s Park cancels summer season in response to coronavirus pandemic

One of the area’s summer staples is the latest to fall victim to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

DelGrosso’s Park and Laguna Splash in nearby Blair County announced Friday “with deep regret” that it has canceled the 2020 summer season and will not open amid the pandemic. With social-distancing protocols, capacity restrictions and supply-chain interruptions, the park would’ve faced an uphill battle in creating the same atmosphere this season that its customers have come to expect.

“Many factors played a role in this difficult decision,” a written statement from the board of directors said. “First and foremost, the safety of our employees and our guests is our No. 1 priority as it has been for 73 years.”

Those who have already purchased 2020 season passes can transfer those passes to 2021 and will receive an additional $25 food credit as a thank you. More information on transferring will soon be emailed and made available on the website.

Other customers, such as all-day fun pass holders and 2020 refillable cup purchasers, can also make exchanges for the 2021 season. Those who rented cabanas or scheduled picnics will be contacted by the office staff.

Any questions can be directed to parkinfo@delgrossos.com.

Blair County was among 13 counties in the state to partially reopen Friday by moving into the second, or “yellow,” phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s three-phase reopening plan. No counties have fully reopened, and 30 counties remain under stay-at-home orders.

Other parks around the country, such as Disney World in Florida, also remain closed.

“Your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time in our history is appreciated more than words can say,” DelGrosso’s board added.
