National retailer set to open in Ferguson Township, its first in Centre County
Pet Supplies Plus plans to open its first Centre County store April 9, a company spokesperson wrote in an email Friday.
The pet store chain plans to move into an 8,062-square-foot space at Northland Center, the former home of Koko FitClub. Renovations are ongoing.
“I had worked as an attorney in New York City for almost 40 years, but had always enjoyed outdoor activities. When I retired from legal practice and decided to open a Pet Supplies Plus store, I wanted to move to a scenic and relatively rural area that both could support the store and offer significant cultural attractions,” owner Peter Manbeck wrote in a statement. “I was familiar with the State College area from backpacking trips undertaken in the nearby mountains and so State College was at the top of my list.”
A dozen people are expected to be hired at the retailer that offers accessories and supplies for a variety of animals.
The business’ lease is 10 years, with a five-year renewal option, the spokesperson wrote.
