Excited about Centre County’s first Aldi? The discount grocery chain has set an opening date

Centre County’s first Aldi is scheduled to open Oct. 28, a company executive wrote Wednesday in an emailed statement.

The discount grocery chain would be the first to open at Patton Crossing, a 30-acre commercial and residential site being constructed at the former home of the Penn State Mobile Home Park.

The 20,422-square-foot store is set to open along North Atherton Street in Patton Township. There will be upward of 111 parking spaces, according to plans submitted to the township.

About 15-20 people are expected to be employed at the business, Aldi Saxonburg Division Vice President J.R. Perry wrote in a statement.

The company’s second Centre Region location remains without an opening date. Construction on the 19,221-square-foot store at 780 Benner Pike in College Township is ongoing.

The store is expected to have 90 parking spaces, including several for curbside pickup, and employ about 15-20 people, Perry wrote.
