‘I was very excited.’ New cheesesteak restaurant opens in Penns Valley
A restaurant dedicated to one of Pennsylvania’s most well-known foods opened Friday in Penns Valley.
South Philly Cheesesteaks offers several variations of the famous sandwich, including those “wit or witout” onions. Customers can choose from American cheese, provolone cheese or Cheez Whiz.
“I was very excited,” owner Michael Albegiani said Monday. “Very excited to do this again here because people know me here. I was here before for a long time. People are very welcoming here.”
The native of Sicily opened the eatery at 2782 Earlystown Road, the same location where he operated Bella Sicilia for about eight years. His cheesesteak business is takeout only.
Albegiani’s lease for the about 1,500-square-foot space is for five years. He plans to hire about five people. The restaurant also sells hot and cold subs, sides and salads.
The business is scheduled to be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday.
“It’s the folks, it’s the people here. The people here are very welcoming,” Albegiani said of the decision to open another business in Penns Valley. “They’re very nice, hardworking people. I feel very comfortable here.”
