‘An absolutely amazing run.’ Pleasant Gap’s Red Horse Tavern set to close in the spring
An American restaurant and bar that has sat at the heart of Pleasant Gap for at least six decades plans to close in the spring.
Red Horse Tavern, 104 N. Main St., expects to continue operating through April before closing, owner Justin Leiter wrote in social media posts Sunday.
“It’s been an absolutely amazing run. It’s incredible to think I started this journey 10 years ago,” Leiter wrote. “There’s been more joy and success than I could ever have imagined. The memories, friends and experiences that were created along the way will never be forgotten.”
It was not immediately clear why the business plans to close. The Bellefonte Area High School graduate simply wrote, “I feel it’s time to move on.”
Leiter worked as a chef at The Village at Penn State, the Carnegie House and the Gamble Mill before finding his way to Red Horse about a decade ago. The pub offered a sit-down-and-unwind experience less than 10 miles from State College, Bellefonte and Centre Hall.
“I want to thank the patrons that have supported us along the way, especially in the last couple of years throughout the unexpected changes in the world which we are still dealing with today,” Leiter wrote. “You are a part of our success and your continuous support means a lot. It’s been our joy to see everyone week in and week out.”
