A new workout facility is on its way to downtown State College.

Planet Fitness has signed a lease for a spot in the Fraser Centre, property owner Gary Brandeis confirmed Wednesday.

The company has begun building out the space, which was formerly occupied by clothing company H&M. The 18,347-square-foot location at 118 S. Fraser St. is scheduled to open later this year, though the company did not specify an exact date.

This would be the area’s second Planet Fitness location.

The fitness club opened its first State College location in 2014 at the Nittany Mall and underwent an 8,000-square-foot expansion in 2019.

The downtown location appealed to the company because of its convenience and accessibility for Penn State students, Planet Fitness representative Chloe Bair said. Club members could potentially stop in for a half-hour workout between classes.

The new facility will feature the latest cardio and strength equipment, flat-screen TVs as well as a spa for Black Card members with tanning and hydromassage beds.
