Starbucks poised to get new location in downtown State College

Starbucks is shuffling locations in downtown State College.

The coffee giant plans to move into the Pugh Centre. “Coming Soon” signs can be seen in the windows of the building at Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue. The company is reportedly going to close the location at 141 S. Garner St.

Starbucks media relations did not respond to questions. A store supervisor confirmed a move, but it’s not clear when it will take place.

Starbucks has shops downtown at 232 W. College Ave. and in Target, as well as two campus locations in the HUB-Robeson Center and Paterno Library. The chain’s State College footprint extends north to 2030 N. Atherton St. and the Target on Colonnade Boulevard, and south to the Giant on South Atherton Street.

Pugh Centre opened in August 2020, replacing the former CVS pharmacy in that location. Its top five floors are apartments and the bottom two floors hold about 6,000 square feet of commercial space that has been empty since the building opened.
