Tussey Mountain is offering a new way to wind down after a long week.

Starting this weekend, ax throwing will join the menu of entertainment options at Tussey’s beer garden.

Visitors to the beer garden have had the opportunity to wind down and watch the sunset, said Tussey marketing director Aaron Weyman, or play games such as cornhole or KanJam. The Blue Moose, which offers ax throwing at its Mifflinburg base, approached Tussey about adding the activity in Boalsburg.

Weyman said ax throwing has become a popular activity across the country, and Tussey officials think locals will enjoy participating.

Six lanes will be open for target practice starting at 5 p.m. Friday, and continuing Saturday and Sunday, on a walk-in basis. Reservations will be taken for future weeks. The cost to participate had not been finalized Thursday afternoon.

Ax throwing can be a singular or group pursuit, as participants can throw for fun or keep score, Weyman said. Tussey Mountain may establish leagues eventually, he said.
