Downtown State College Waffle Shop reopens after weekslong closure from fire

The Waffle Shop in downtown State College is back open after a fire in the East College Avenue building last month.

According to a Facebook post, the business is having a “grand reopening” from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. It closed temporarily after a fire on Oct. 10. Owner Duane Reese told the CDT last month that damage to the space was minimal and they were working on smoke mitigation and cleanup.

Firefighters made a quick stop to the fire after a student across the street saw the smoke from a dorm window and called authorities. Reese expressed gratitude to the student who reported the fire, first responders and the downtown business community for their support.

During the closure, the restaurant directed customers to its Bellefonte location.
