National fitness chain plans 36,000-square-foot gym in State College’s Westerly Parkway Plaza

A national fitness chain plans to open a 36,000-square-foot fitness center in State College’s Westerly Parkway Plaza.

Crunch Fitness will be arriving soon at the plaza’s former Rite Aid space, according to the chain’s website, and with it comes a plethora of fitness and workout resources.

Crunch Fitness is a popular gym that has more than 400 locations across the United States, including several fitness centers in Pennsylvania.

According to the gym’s Facebook page, the $5 million, 36,000-square-foot State College location will offer things like fitness classes, cardio machines, a large selection of free weights, turfs for sporting activities, babysitting services, UV tanning beds and more.

The new gym will be open for 24 hours on Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

An opening date has not been announced yet, but pre-sale dates for future members will be announced soon, according to the Facebook page.

Crunch Fitness did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Westerly Parkway Rite Aid closed in December, part of widespread closures after the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.
