When do Centre County grocery, liquor stores close for New Year’s? See holiday hours
The new year is nearly here, but there’s still time to get in some last-minute shopping if you’re hosting a New Year’s Eve bash.
Most major grocery markets and liquor stores in Centre County will adjust their hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. You’d be wise to check your preferred location before leaving to pick up party supplies or some bottles to pop at midnight.
Here’s a brief overview of the planned holiday hours for grocery markets and liquor stores throughout Centre County. Some schedules and services may vary by location, so be sure to check with your preferred site.
Aldi
All Aldi stores — including locations at 1798 N. Atherton St. and 780 Benner Pike in State College — will close at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day. Regular hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. resume starting Thursday, Jan. 2.
FW&GS
Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores will close by 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day.
Centre County is home to seven Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores, including four in State College. Stores are available at the following addresses:
- 127 Southridge Plaza in State College
- 230 W. Hamilton Ave. in State College
- 1682 N. Atherton St. in State College
- 323 Benner Pike in State College
- 178 Buckaroo Lane in Bellefonte
- 15 W. Olive St. in Snow Shoe
- 1067 N. Front St. in Philipsburg
Giant
This company’s stores will close at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, while pharmacies will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stores will reopen with regular hours on New Year’s Day, though pharmacies will stay closed until Jan. 2.
Sam’s Club
State College’s Sam’s Club, located at 381 Benner Pike, will close at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day. Regular hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. return Jan. 2.
Target
Both State College Target stores — 315 Colonnade Blvd. and 201 W. Beaver Ave. — will close at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve but operate with regular hours on New Year’s Day. The former is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, while the downtown location runs from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Trader Joe’s
State College’s Trader Joe’s, located at 243 Patriot Lane, will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Regular hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. are scheduled for New Year’s Day, according to the company’s website.
Walmart
Regular hours are on tap for both State College Walmart stores. The company’s stores at 373 Benner Pike and 1665 N. Atherton St. are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Wegmans
The only Wegmans in Centre County, located at 345 Colonnade Blvd. in State College, will close at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and reopen with regular hours at 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The store’s pharmacy will close at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day.
Weis
All five Weis stores in Centre County will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve but open for regular hours on New Year’s Day. Three of the company’s stores — in Bellefonte (170 Buckaroo Lane), Philipsburg (501 N. Centre St.) and State College (560 Westerly Parkway) — are open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., while the other two stores at 1471 Martin St. and 110 Rolling Ridge Drive in State College normally operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., respectively.
The three Weis pharmacies in the area — located at the company’s stores in Bellefonte, Philipsburg and Rolling Ridge Drive in State College — are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
