State College hotel that evokes a Scottish manor named one of the best in PA by US News

A State College hotel was one of 25 selected by U.S. News & World Report as the best in Pennsylvania.

Carnegie House, located at 100 Cricklewood Drive in State College, was ranked 17th best in the state in 2025.

U.S. News compiled the ranking by looking at a number of factors, including awards, hotel class and guest ratings. The majority of hotels that made the top 25 list were in Philadelphia, with the 5-star Rittenhouse Hotel taking the top spot.

Carnegie House in State College was built in 1993 to pays homage to philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. U.S. News & World Report describes it as “the best of two worlds.”

“Set against the quiet greens of Toftrees Golf Resort, it’s also just about 3 miles to Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium, so it is also close to the excitement of the lively college town of State College, Pennsylvania,” the ranking reads.

Features of the 4-star hotel include complimentary breakfast, access to a fitness center across the street, an on-site spa and access to nearby hiking trails.

The hotel’s website describes Carnegie house as the “ultimate escape.”

“Steeped in history and echoing the charm of a Scottish manor, our hotel offers an intimate escape for the discerning traveler,” the hotel’s website reads.

Prices vary depending on the room and date, but start at around $170 per night and can go up to more than $1,000.

The Centre Daily Times has reached out to the Carnegie House for comment, but did not hear back immediately.
