Under new management, this State College hotel will receive renovations. What to know
A State College-based property management company plans to renovate a local hotel after acquiring it earlier this month.
The 119-room Hampton Inn at 1101 E. College Ave. now falls under the management of Hospitality Asset Management Company (HAMCO), making it the group’s fifth hotel property in the Centre County area. The group manages its State College-area properties under the name Lion Country Lodging.
In a media release, the group said it plans to renovate the newly acquired Hampton Inn “over the next several months” to improve guest offerings and services. Upgrades are expected to include improvements to exterior lighting and landscaping and renovations to guest bathrooms, the fitness center, the lobby, breakfast areas and the front desk.
“HAMCO is honored to serve as the management company for this pillar of hospitality property in Centre County,” CEO Edward Tubbs said in a statement. “We are eager to begin the process of working with the ownership, designers and contractors to further enhance the Hampton Inn to an elevated level of guest service and experiences.”
This Hampton Inn hotel already offers a fitness center and outdoor pool, according to the media release. Renovations could make it an even more desirable lodging option for those traveling for Penn State sporting events due to its close proximity to Beaver Stadium, the Bryce Jordan Center and other on-campus venues.
Renovations at the College Avenue Hampton Inn come just as Philipsburg’s We Are Inn restaurant plans to open a State College location next door at 1031 E. College Ave. inside the former Damon’s Bar & Grill. The restaurant — whose owner said the State College location would instead likely be named “Happy Valley Live!” — is expected to offer dining and entertainment offerings once it launches later this spring following substantial renovations of its own.
HAMCO’s other State College hotels include the Hilton Garden Inn by Hilton (1221 E. College Ave.), Days Inn by Wyndham (1274 N. Atherton St.), Super 8 by Wyndham (1663 S. Atherton St.) and Nittany Budget Motel (2070 Cato Ave.).
The group will also manage the 98-room Tru Hotel by Hilton under construction along Benner Pike, the Home2 Suites by Hilton in the works in College Township and the planned hotel included in the long-awaited Bellefonte Waterfront Project. The former two hotels broke ground in June and November 2024, respectively.
HAMCO’s full property profile also includes hotels across Pennsylvania in Carlisle, Indiana, Clearfield, Camp Hill and more. The group also manages some dining options and Brewsky’s bottle shops located within its State College lodges.
