This Centre County bakery will close its shop but keep selling sweets. Here’s why
A Centre County bakery will close its brick-and-mortar store this winter to streamline its operations.
The Cakeshop by Tati plans to shutter its storefront at 113 E. College Ave. in Pleasant Gap following the Christmas season, the shop’s owners announced on Facebook Friday. The move is expected to help the bakery consolidate its business and continue selling pastries, made-to-order cakes and more.
“We can’t thank you enough for being part of this journey, for your morning coffee visits, your pastry runs and for letting us share in your birthdays, weddings and every sweet celebration in between,” the Facebook post reads. “So many of you have become friends, and we’re endlessly grateful for your support over the years.”
The Cakeshop by Tati storefront’s final day will be Dec. 23. Its owners are already encouraging customers to get a head start on placing orders for Thanksgiving and the holiday season — including high-demand Yule logs and Christmas treats.
On Facebook, the Cakeshop by Tati hinted it would “sprinkle in” some pop-ups once its brick-and-mortar bakery closes. The shop encouraged fans to stay tuned for announcements over the next few months.
“This next chapter is about growth, creativity and family, and we’re so grateful to have you all cheering us on,” the shop wrote online.
With a philosophy that “butter makes everything better,” the bakery offers a wide-ranging menu that includes fresh-baked croissants, cookies, muffins, macarons and scones in addition to custom cakes and cupcakes. The shop indicated it will offer spots to pick up online orders and continue working with wholesale partners in State College and Bellefonte, including Eden Valley Coffee Co. and Little Lions Play Den.
Tatiana Polay opened her eponymous bakery in 2021 as the natural successor to her custom cake design business. With years of experience baking in Manhattan, she moved to Centre County with her husband near the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to start new careers while working close to family.
The Cakeshop is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays, according to its website. The bakery is closed on Mondays. Customers can visit thecakeshopbytati.com to view its menu and place orders.
