A wide-ranging arcade and entertainment space is preparing to open in State College next month.

Nittany Valley Sports Centre will unveil a dedicated space for arcade games and virtual reality experiences with a grand opening scheduled for noon on Saturday, March 7. The new arcade, dubbed the Clubhouse Family Fun Centre, is expected to complement the facility’s existing lineup of indoor fields and courts, camps and classes and multipurpose event spaces.

The Clubhouse will open with at least 70 arcade cabinets, including Skee-Ball, crane games, racing games, basketball games, air hockey tables and large video game displays. Some games are themed after popular movies like “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and the “Terminator” franchise.

The new arcade will also feature a “VR Starship” simulator that’s described as a six-person adventure taking players “on flights through the cosmos.” Nittany Valley Sports Centre says it will be the first of its kind in North America.

In a press release, Nittany Valley Sports Centre said the addition of the Clubhouse will advance the complex’s status as a year-round option for sports and recreation. The center is also expected to open a new coffee bar and expand its cafe menu, which currently features chicken tenders, pizzas and salads, among other snacks.

“The Clubhouse adds something our families have been asking for,” Nittany Valley Sports Centre general manager Michael Lee said in a statement. “It gives people a reason to stay, connect and enjoy time together, whether they’re here for a practice, a birthday or just an easy night out. It fits naturally into how our community already uses the Centre.”

Once open, the Clubhouse will be available for birthday parties and group events. Nittany Valley Sports Centre said it would release details regarding the arcade’s hours, pricing and party options closer to its grand opening in March.

Nittany Valley Sports Centre opened in early 2019 as a long-planned 70,000-square-foot complex complete with indoor sports fields, hard courts for sports like basketball and volleyball and a gymnastics training center, among other amenities. The center grew in early 2021 when it completed a second phase of construction that added another 50,000 square feet to its footprint.

Nittany Valley Sports Centre is located at 177 Champion Drive in State College just off of Fox Hill Road and Bernel Road in Patton Township. Visit its website at thecentrepa.com to learn more about its facilities, youth sports programs, parties and events and more.
