1 new COVID-19 case and 1 new death reported in Centre County, per state Department of Health

One new COVID-19 case and one new death were reported in Centre County on Monday, according to the state Department of Health.

That brings the county’s overall case total to 228 since the first case was reported March 20 and the death toll to eight, though the Centre County coroner’s office has only confirmed six deaths.

As of noon Monday, Deputy Coroner Judith Pleskonko said the county has not received official notification about the death.

The death did not occur at Mount Nittany Medical Center, a spokeswoman said.

Of Centre County’s cases, 212 are confirmed and 16 are probable; 4,866 people have tested negative.

Statewide, there were 450 new cases Monday, according to the DOH, bringing the total to 90,304. Of those, 78% have recovered.

There was one new death reported in Pennsylvania, bringing the total deaths attributed to COVID-19 at 6,754.

Six total COVID-19 deaths have been confirmed by the Centre County coroner’s office — an 89-year-old man on April 16, a 96-year-old man May 8, an 89-year-old woman May 9, a 74-year-old man May 12, an 88-year-old woman May 13 and an 88-year-old man May 27.

Deaths are counted by county of residence, meaning a person could die outside of Centre County but still appear in the DOH’s total. In the past, the DOH has also removed deaths from the county’s total as data is reconciled.

Last week, a 21-year-old Penn State student died of causes related to COVID-19, but it is not clear whether that fatality was counted as part of Centre County.
