Centre County adds 59 new cases of COVID-19; Pennsylvania has 776 new positives
Centre County added 59 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the state Department of health, bringing the county’s total to 1,508 since March 20. The 59 new cases come on the heels of Centre County’s largest single day increase — 212 — on Tuesday.
Of Centre County’s total cases, 1,449 are confirmed and 59 are probable. There have been 21,479 negative tests, and the county is seeing an incidence rate of 926.30 per 100,000 people.
There are two people hospitalized in Centre County due to COVID-19, according to the state’s dashboard. There have been 11 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Centre county, according to the DOH. Of those 11 deaths, eight have been nursing home residents, per the DOH data.
Pennsylvania added 776 new positives Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 146,990. There were 28 new deaths reported for a total of 7,903 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Pennsylvania.

The state does not give specific numbers when there are fewer than five cases to protect patient privacy, and does not identify exactly where a case occurred in a ZIP code that spans multiple counties.
Of the Pennsylvanians who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:
- Approximately 1% are ages 0-4;
- Nearly 2% are ages 5-12;
- Approximately 4% are ages 13-18;
- Approximately 12% are ages 19-24;
- Approximately 36% are ages 25-49;
- Nearly 22% are ages 50-64; and
- Approximately 22% are ages 65 or older.
“We know that congregation, especially in college and university settings, yields increased case counts. The mitigation efforts in place now are essential to flattening the curve and saving lives,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said in a statement. “Wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and following the requirements set forth in the orders for bars and restaurants, gatherings, and telework will help keep our case counts low.”
